Thomas Clark Smith of Malvern PA, passed away on Sept 26, 2025, just a month before his 71st birthday. He was the son of the late Lee & Marilyn Smith of Wayne, PA, brother to Mark (Indianapolis, IN), Sheri (Deming, WA) and our youngest brother, Scott (Buford, GA) who preceded him in death.

As a family, we moved several times in the early years due to our father's job. Mostly, we grew up in Indianapolis and at our cottage on Higgins Lake, MI and at a very young age at our Grandparents' cottage at Bay Park near Saginaw Bay MI. These family gatherings fostered Tom's strong sense of kinship. He enjoyed boating, all kinds of fishing, water & snow sports, camping, and a love of the outdoors. Tom and Mark were both summer camp counselors at Camp Mahn-Go-Tah-See, in Hale Michigan for a combined 5 summers (1969-1971).

When Tom was very young he was in a band named 'Dynamics'. 'Hang on Sloopy' and 'G-L-O-R-I-A' were favorites that they learned to play. Tom loved all kinds of music and enjoyed playing the guitar from then on. He cherished his Martin acoustic, made nearby in Nazareth PA.

Tom graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis. He remained in Indiana, after our family moved to Illinois, to begin his first year of college at Vincennes studying veterinary medicine. He later transferred to Indiana University and changed his studies to journalism. Tom loved to write. He wrote for small publications and newsletters. To the end of his life, Tom had a keen memory and left us with lovely stories about family and growing up. 

After two years in Illinois, our family moved to the Main Line area of Philadelphia. Tom eventually joined us there and for many years he was the printing press guru of our family business, Print-Out-Press in Bryn Mawr PA. After that era of life ended, at our parents' passing, with the help from the extraordinary folks at HPCC (Housing Partnership of Chester County), Tom bought a townhome in Lionville/Exton. He was a member of The Stepping Stones Clubhouse in Coatesville PA from it's inception in 1999, Fellowship Health Resources of Phoenixville PA and Westminster Presbyterian Church of West Chester PA where he made lasting friendships. When it came to sports, the Phillies were his team and Tom enjoyed watching college football.

In Tom's final years, he was a resident at Green Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Malvern PA. Tom was very involved in the community there. He gravitated to the less fortunate residents and obtained several certifications: PEER (Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Resident) for long-term care residents who are trained to self-advocate and empower fellow residents, and CPS (Certified Peer Specialist), and leveraged his own personal experience to help others. He participated with the Department of Human Services' Compeer Coalition when he was living independently. 

Tom's soul is among the sweetest of souls. Along with help from friends, family and community, he championed many challenges in his life. We will smile remembering his quick-witted sense of humor and when faced with adversity, we will channel his enduring spirit ~
