Peter Michael Coyne, a longtime resident of Chatham, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 65. He was born on August 5, 1960, in Newark, New Jersey, to Mary and Tom Coyne. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Dana; their two sons, Sean and Paul; his sister, Ellen, and her husband, Joe, along with their family; and his sister-in-law, Anne, and her three children. Peter was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Coyne. He was also a well-loved uncle to many nieces and nephews.   

Early on in Peter’s career, he worked as a watercolor artist before establishing himself as a graphic designer for major clients, such as Land Rover and BMW. Outside of his passion for art, Peter also enjoyed fishing, always attending the Chatham Fire Department Fishing Derby even long after his boys aged out of the competition. Peter spent many weekends of his life cheering on both of his sons as they advanced through their athletic careers. Whether it was a 5 a.m. wrestling tournament or the New York City Marathon, Peter always showed up for his sons. Peter enjoyed his anniversary trips to Vermont with his wife Dana, and his family vacations at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.  

On any given Sunday, if he wasn’t grilling burgers for family dinner, you could catch him cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers or his current football team. We know he loved the lottery and playing solitaire, but we’ll never know how good he was at either. Throughout his life, Peter had several animal companions, but most recently found his soul dog in Annette. In his last weeks, he was able to watch Sean, marry his wife, Caroline. He also had the opportunity to meet Paul’s Ph.D. advisor and learn about Paul’s progress and contributions to his industry of study. Having shared in these meaningful experiences, Peter passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia on July 13, 2026.
