Judith C. Friedkin Obituary
Judith C. Friedkin, known affectionately as Judy by all who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 82 in Philadelphia, PA. Born on September 24, 1942, in Chester, PA, Judy was the cherished daughter of the late Anna and Joseph Friedkin. She was a certified English and Spanish teacher in Philadelphia for many years.
Judy was a dedicated high school teacher who shared her passion for the English and Spanish languages with countless students over the years. Her career as a teacher was marked not only by her commitment to her students' academic successes, but also by her genuine care for their personal growth. She lost touch with many of her students as years passed, but was delighted when social media brought them back in touch with her. She was dedicated to lifelong learning for herself as well as others.
Those who knew Judy will fondly remember her adventurous spirit and her love for traveling. She believed that to travel was to live, and she lived fully through her explorations. She ventured to many corners of the globe throughout her life, always eager to immerse herself into new cultures and languages. She loved spending most winters in Cozumel to escape the cold Philly weather. It was her favorite destination. Judy was an accomplished polyglot and loved speaking Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish to any native speaker she met. Her zest for life was also evident in her love of dancing, art, and fashion.
Judy was kind, funny, and adventurous. She accurately described herself as "muy simpatica". Her kindness and sense of humor were sources of comfort and joy that could brighten even the darkest of days. Even with life's adversities, she was a perpetual optimist. Her close friend stated it best when she said, "Judy was always a glass half full kind of gal".
We will continue to celebrate her beautifully lived and well-traveled life. Her influence will continue to resonate through the lives she touched, the knowledge she imparted, and the laughter she shared. Her warm presence, kind heart, and wonderful storytelling will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former students. We love her and miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please honor Judy by donating to your local animal shelter, Doctors Without Borders, or the American Cancer Society.
